About Belighten

By: Belighten

Belighten is a small, lightweight set of 3D tools for the browser. It does one thing well: let you open a 3D model, show it to someone else, and get a few everyday 3D chores done without installing anything.

There is no account system, no mandatory subscription, and no plan to put the tools behind a paywall. Open the page and use them.

Who runs this site

Belighten is maintained by an independent developer who has spent more than ten years working on 3D graphics: model pipelines, real-time rendering, engine tooling, and the effort of getting all of that to run inside a browser with WebGL and WebGPU.

After years of production 3D work, the recurring problem was rarely "we lack a powerful application". It was "we lack a link I can send to someone that just opens". DCC suites and engine editors are excellent at authoring, but they are a poor fit for "take a look at this model". Most online viewers, meanwhile, require sign-up or cap file size, formats, or how long a model stays online.

Belighten started as a tool for that exact situation. The need turned out to be common, so it became a public site.

What you will find here

Every tool targets the same user: someone who handles 3D content regularly but does not want a full workstation install for a five-minute check.

  • 3D Model Viewer: open a model in the browser, inspect geometry, materials and overall shading, then share a link with a colleague or client.
  • Grid Calculator: estimate grid ranges, per-grid profit and required margin for grid trading strategies before you place an order.
  • App Translator: batch-organise interface strings into multi-language resources instead of copying and pasting by hand.
  • Documentation: how each tool actually behaves, which file formats are supported, and how to diagnose the common failures.

Why the content is trustworthy

Every document and tool description on this site was written from real use, not generated in bulk. When a model fails to parse, a material renders incorrectly, or a format turns out to be only partially supported, the documentation records the actual cause and a verified workaround.

The stack is deliberately boring: the site is built with Next.js and self-hosted, and the tools lean on the browser so there is less account handling and less data collection than usual. The privacy policy lists each analytics and advertising service we use, item by item, with no vague wording.

If something is wrong, or a feature is missing, tell us through the contact page. A large share of what gets built here comes from reader and user feedback.

How content gets updated

The site keeps growing with hands-on 3D workflow material: format compatibility, materials and textures, model review checklists, and troubleshooting paths for common errors. Every article carries a publish date and an update date, and revisions are reflected in that date.

We optimise for whether an article actually solves the problem, not for publishing volume.

Contact

Bug reports, feature requests and corrections can go through the contact page, or straight to belighten@gmail.com. We usually reply within one or two business days.
